We are very proud of the successes we had in 2008 and feel we distinguished ourselves as the leader in the health insurance industry. The following are just a sample of the awards and recognitions we earned in 2008; confirming that our achievements have been noted by a wide range of public, private, and nonprofit organizations and print publications:

Aetna has been named Fortune magazine's most admired company in the Health Care: Insurance and Managed Care category for 2009, the second consecutive year that Aetna has earned this distinction. Fortune ranks companies in various industry sectors in eight categories, according to their peers.
In February 2009 Aetna Chairman and CEO Ronald A. Williams and Felicia Norwood, President and Chief Operating Officer of ActiveHealth Management, were named to Black Enterprise magazine's list of 100 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America.
In 2008 Ronald A. Williams, Aetna Chairman and CEO, received the NAACP Legal Defense Fund's National Equal Justice Award.
Ronald A. Williams, Aetna Chairman and CEO, received the Executive Council's 2008 Ten Awards Best Healthcare Executive.
In 2008 Ronald A. Williams, Aetna Chairman and CEO, received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse in recognition of his efforts to bring attention to and reduce disparities in health care, and substance abuse and addiction.
In 2008 the National Committee for Quality Assurance awarded Aetna the Recognizing Innovation in Multicultural Health Care Award for its telephonic culturally competent disease management program.
Aetna ranked first among national health plans in the 2008 PayerView Rankings. According to the rankings from Athenahealth Inc., an unaffiliated provider of practice management and electronic medical record services, Aetna pays physicians faster and denies claims less often than other health plans measured.
Aetna ranked 23rd on CRO's 100 Best Corporate Citizens 2008. The list recognizes the corporate responsibility efforts of corporations in eight categories: climate change, employee relations, environment, financial, governance, human rights, lobbying and philanthropy.
The Institute for Healthcare Advancement named Aetna a winner of its 2008 Health Literacy Award. Aetna won in the "research" category for its Asthma Health Literacy study.
Aetna's secure provider website, via the NaviNet platform, was recognized in 2008 for innovative connectivity achievement with Health Data Management magazine's second annual Editor's Choice Award for consumer connectivity.
ActiveHealth Management, an independent subsidiary of Aetna, was named a winner of the 2008 CDHC Solutions Award, taking top honors in the Most Effective Solution Provider category for ActivePHR, its intelligent personal health record.
Savoy Professional magazine named Ronald A. Williams, Aetna Chairman and CEO, and Elease E. Wright, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, to its 2008 Top 100 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America list.
Diversity:
Aetna was named to Diversity/Careers in Engineering & Information Technology's 2008 list of Best Diversity Companies.
Aetna earned the top rating of 100 percent in the 2009 Corporate Equality Index, an annual Human Rights Campaign survey. It's the seventh straight year Aetna has received a perfect score for service to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees and consumers.
Aetna ranked number 40 on the list of Top 100 Employers of the Class of 2008 by The Black Collegian, the career and self-development magazine for African American students.
Black Enterprise magazine named Aetna to its 2008 list of Top 40 Companies for Diversity, the third straight year Aetna has earned this distinction.
Aetna was named a 25 Noteworthy Company by DiversityInc in 2008.
Aetna was named one of the Top Companies for Executive Women for 2008 by the National Association for Female Executives. The list acknowledges those "in the vanguard of changing the face of executive suites and boardrooms." Aetna has been named to the list since 2002.
Employment Accolades:
Aetna was one of eight Connecticut employers recognized by Connect-Ability in 2008 as one of the Top Employers for People with Disabilities.
Aetna ranked 13th on Training magazine's Top 125 Training Companies list 2008.
Computerworld magazine listed Aetna among the Top 100 Places to Work in IT.
